Staying healthy during the seasonal changes

As the seasons change we need to put in place aids to maintain good health.  For our diets if we can keep our systems free of acidity which means really to have an alkaline balance we may stay free of colds and other illnesses.  Do you find yourself catching colds easily and/or frequently?  Do you notice that your tongue has a grayish coating? Do you notice that you have to urinate frequently? Oftentimes when we do not have the right mineral balance we cannot hold water in our system and we might easily change that by taking Himalayan salts once in the morning and once in the evening.  Himalayan salt crystals have about 108 minerals and the table salt only has 3.  One can take a half teaspoon in warm water and drink a glassful or my preferred way is to use the Himalayan salt crystals that come in a chunk size.  I keep the chunks in a glass jar with water and keep refilling.  I use it to cook with so that I am getting it throughout the day.  This ensures that the water that I drink goes fully into hydrating my cells instead of filling the toilet.  I see many who are athletic who are walking or jogging always carrying water bottles and visiting the bathroom regularly and I wonder why they invest so much for the toilet!   Next do you notice that you are craving sugary, salty and fatty foods regularly…these are telltale signs that our systems are acidic.  Also those who have a high meat/flesh diet often promote acidosis.  There is a cycle when sugar is craved next salt is craved, notice this cycle and know you may put a stop to it easily to prevent your immune system from being depleted and unable to fight off colds, flu and viruses.  When we are ready to break the cycle we can take alkaline foods and juices such as green juices.  Green juices and foods for example are:  kale, spinach, celery, cucumber, ginger, that we may add carrot and a little apple.  Also wheatgrass juice is so packed with vitamins, minerals, amino acids and most importantly chlorophyll  that builds our cells to its strongest.  For those who are not vegan, meaning they take dairy and meats, try during this time to limit both dairy and meats and stay with more green vegetables and fruits.  Grapes, raspberries, cherries, strawberries, cranberries, oranges, kiwis are some of the best choices for boosting the immune system and staying balanced.  Do look for my earlier posts about Apple cider vinegar (ACV) (look for September 1st post) and I recommend Bragg products only as they are organic and the highest quality made for this kind of health regimen.  I take 3 tablespoons in warm water along with a half teaspoon of turmeric powder every morning.  This ACV regimen is one of the best ways to make sure we can stay healthy and balanced.  For those new to this I recommend that you take one teaspoon at first to get use to the taste, in 8 ounces of warm water and you could choose to cut that with grapefruit juice to help get used to the taste.  Also some may choose to add agave for a sweetener that doesn’t have the calories of honey.  Honey does have excellent healing properties if it is truly organic and raw, which means you probably won’t find it in the supermarket chains but in a health food store or farmer’s market.  As I am staying with the vegan routine I am only keeping the raw organic expensive honey for emergencies like sore throat.  Being considerate of the bees is another gentler way to co-exist, as the bee population has been plagued by human ingestion.  We have so many other natural plant-based sweeteners like agave and stevia and also moving away from the sweet craving is what the whole post is about to prevent acidity.  When we decide to face our health and make decisions to eat for our health then we can make choices that are flavorful without damaging our systems.  The ACV regimen keeps our kidneys working to optimal levels flushing out toxins so they don’t fester into illness.  Do review the earlier posts about ACV and try to use only the Bragg product.  They have a great website that is packed with volumes of information about health, recipes, inspirational articles.  I often order my products from their website as they have sales regularly.  Do know that ACV is a very inexpensive item in most  stores and one of the best values for a healthy item for your home and body.  Stay well and share this with your friends and family….if we all are healthy there will be less germs spreading!!!! Thanks to Student Yogini Ashley Sabino for sharing her favorite Blog for Smoothie Recipes, just click the link above to see the Site.  It is a good idea especially for busy on the go folks like college students to quickly make a drink they can ingest and take along to drink later in the day.  It takes a simple blender that is not so expensive along with shopping ahead to stock up with ingredients.  Chain stores like Bed Bath & Beyond sell blenders at inexpensive prices (there is also a $5 coupon on the website).  Some yard sales and Good will stores also sell blenders which can be cleaned with baking soda and boiling water a few times before safe home use.  One can stock up on the paper cartons of almond milk, rice milk, hemp milk, soy milk, coconut water or milk, aloe vera, juice or other liquid choice for the base.  Then make regular stops at your favorite green market for veggies and fruits.  I keep basil , mint, tulsi, lemongrass and other herbs growing to add herb benefits.  I use dates and agave for sweeteners.  I add flax and chia seeds, these can be stored and last a while inexpensively thanks to shops like Trader Joes.  For college students that make a collective they may share veggies and fruits so that they don’t spoil easily.   The picture below shows a mason jar to hold the smoothie and that is a good idea for carrying along for later and inexpensive and come in different sizes, it is glass and not harmful plastic.  Thanks for stopping by here and please do share with others….Here’s to your good health! Our Bodies are 72% Water…Are you aware of how much water you really need to ingest to remain healthy?

A while back while in an Isha Yoga workshop I watched a video in which Sadhguru explained about our bodies need for water.  He joked about how surprised he was to see so many Americans walking around carrying water bottles and drinking all day long, he said in India when temperatures are often close to or over 100 degrees you never see folks carrying water and drinking like in America.  This really jolted me to be true….I myself don’t carry water while at home in the USA or when in India, even while riding a bicycle at mid-day in India I never felt dehydrated.  As a Yoga Teacher my studio’s rest room is in another part of the property and often participants are leaving during  the class to go to use the facilities.  I have tried to explain that one should not ingest food and drinks at least 2 or more hours prior to class to leave the digestive process dormant for yoga practice.  I have explained about using Himalayan sea salt to help keep the body properly hydrated but still there are those who come to class with their water bottles and those who apparently have gulped water all along right up to walking in class.  Another important thing that Sadhguru explained was about how disruptive leaving the yoga class is to a participant, previously I was concerned about disruption to the entire group and just wanted the individual to feel comfortable to relieve their system at the restroom.  All of this got me to think again about how conditioned western folks are and how they are “educated” by the corporations who only concern is grabbing their dollars at the cost of their overall health and wellbeing.  Several years ago there was some disturbing news that many foreign nationals had wrangled the rights to many major USA communities/towns/cities/regional water utility contracts.  Around the same time the commercialization of bottled water sprang up and Americans were strongly advised to ingest at least 8 glasses of water per day…another industry driven “quasi-health” campaign?

Back to the basics…Water does provide for the necessary exchange for nutrients to reach our cells and for waste to leave via our elimination processes, but what’s the truth about the needed daily amounts? Just recently The institute for Medicine in the USA published this….”the vast majority of healthy people adequately meet their hydration needs by letting thirst be their guide.”  (Please do click the link to see a short video with Sadhguru and Ed Begley Jr. talking about this subject a few months ago in the USA.)  Many have been brain washed to believe they must always hold a water bottle in their hand all day long to ingest enough water.  Hence sales of chic designer water bottles, bottle carriers and artisanal Waters from France to Fiji.  For those who eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies (9-15 servings per day) they are getting lots of water as these foods are high in water content.  In the video I watched in the workshop Sadhguru explained a bit about the science behind what happens to the body when ingesting too much water, and I can say I witness some of these imbalances (including unexplained allergies and more)  my students who are always sharing proudly about how much they drink water.  The Medical field is usually careful about what they share so as to avoid legal battles, so we may have to wait for a longer time to know the upside of this change of advice and its negative implications and havoc this trend has placed on so many who were just trying to take care of their health by buying and drinking water.  At the safe side, Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, Professor of Medicine/Renal, Electrolyte and Hypertension Division at the University of Pennsylvania stated, “…if anything drinking too much water can slightly impair the ability of the kidneys to filter blood.  The only people who should drink excess water are those who have had kidney stones.”   I also want to add for nursing mothers like my Daughter-in-Law, Alyson who is nursing our Grandson Rowan, drinking water and herbal teas are necessary as you are sharing your supply with the Baby, so keep drinking up while nursing.  As well, other conditions that one may be advised by their doctors to keep to a certain regime.

I think many who are aware about taking care of our Mothership Earth, that plastic water bottles are just damaging the planet and I recommend getting a water filter and a copper vessel.  In the link there is print information and in the video Sadhguru explains about what happens to the energy of our water as it moves in pipes to our sinks.  Once again, Sadhguru brings us back to think about the most subtle and extremely important points about energy consumption and how it affects our energetic levels.  Another instance of modernization hazards, convenience of having sophisticated piping to bring water into the home vs. having to carry it from the well to the kitchen, but something beneficial was there when we had to do this.  Perhaps now we can understand about how useful the time  may be as our water is filtered and is stored allowing for the molecules to re-establish a harmonious level. About the importance of keeping our systems alkaline

Namaste, in one of the last posts mention was made about morning regimens such as taking Apple Cider Vinegar, ACV. I just wanted to share more about how this inexpensive product works wonders. I recommend the Bragg products as they are organic and high quality. When our systems become acidic from too much sugar, salt, caffeine, stress, medicines the levels of oxygen are lowered in our cells and the immune fighting powers are depressed. When we find ourselves acidic it is easy for illnesses like: sore throat, colds, flu, and allergies, Many other conditions may be reduced or eliminated when a regular daily regimen begins. The recommendation is to take 2-3 tablespoons of the apple cider vinegar and mix with about eight ounces of water. I use warm water, but some may choose any temperature and some add honey or stevia until they become accustomed to the taste. In about 6 weeks of daily intake morning and night one may find conditions such as: acne, artery plaque, high toxic levels, hunger cravings for salty and sugary foods, dull complexion, rashes and itchy scalp and athlete’s foot, reversing! For those over 50 the creaky bones become less as it helps removes crystals and toxins from joints, and tissues. Some may find the taste a bit strong in the beginning. Hopefully by learning about caring for the body at the cellular level one begins to appreciate what substances help to keep the energy at its highest. When the cells are fully oxygenated cancers and virus cannot survive and are eliminated naturally. The Bragg company hosts a website with a wealth of information as well as products may be ordered safely there. Health food stores also carry some of the products and usually ACV is available. It is a challenge to make changes and it is good to try putting a new regimen in place just temporarily.
